PHILCAMSAT and PTC proudly took part in the two-day symposium “Charting the Course: Empowering Seafarers for a Decarbonized Shipping Future” hosted by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) in partnership with Green Marine Group on March 19–20, 2025, at Midas Hotel, Pasay City.
This significant event equipped seafarers and maritime stakeholders with essential knowledge and skills to navigate the transition to greener shipping. Industry leaders, policymakers, and experts gathered to share strategies, best practices, and foster collaboration toward a sustainable maritime future.
The program covered five key topics:
- Part 1: Navigating Policies for Shipping Decarbonization: Strategies and Challenges
- Part 2: Green Technologies and Sustainable Shipping
- Part 3: The Critical Role of Seafarers for Green Transition
- Part 4: Ensuring Safety of Life in Navigating Green Future
- Part 5: Alternative Fuels for Maritime Decarbonization – featuring expert discussions on LNG, methanol, ethanol, ammonia, hydrogen, biofuels, and other alternative fuels.
Capt. Pol Winston Haboc, Head of PHILCAMSAT and The MAST, served as the Moderator for Part 3, highlighting the essential role of seafarers in the green transition.
PHILCAMSAT and PTC were well-represented at the event by Chief Engineer Alfredo Haboc (QA and Program Director), Ms. Karen Avelino (Executive Director of Business Development), Chief Engineer Mark Phillip “Chief Makoi” Laurilla, Jessa Madagan (Assistant Manager of Research and Development), Marah Andrea Ramos (Business Development Officer), and Charise Santa Clara (Research and Development Associate).
On the second day, Chief Engineer Sherrain Dominguez shared valuable insights as one of the speakers, providing expertise on alternative fuels and sustainable practices in maritime operations. The symposium underscored the maritime sector’s commitment to decarbonization and sustainable growth, with engaging discussions and valuable insights from industry leaders and experts.
