PHILCAMSAT’s Chief MAKOi highlights digital transformation at Singapore Maritime Week

PHILCAMSAT proudly highlights the participation of its Training Manager, Chief Engineer Mark Philip “MAKOi” Laurilla, at Singapore Maritime Week 2026—one of the industry’s premier global gatherings that brings together leaders and innovators shaping the future of shipping.

Chief MAKOi took center stage as a keynote speaker during Inmarsat’s seminar, “Connected to Perform: Enabling a Digital, Secure, and Human-Centric Fleet,” held on April 21 at the Conrad Hotel Singapore. Sharing the platform with Ivan Guzman, the session highlighted two generations of seafarers and their contrasting experiences at sea. Chief MAKOi reflected on a time when communication relied on “snail mail” over 25 years ago, while Guzman represented a new generation that has never known life onboard without internet connectivity. Together, they offered powerful, real-world insights into how digital transformation has reshaped life at sea—enhancing not only operations, but also crew welfare and connection with loved ones.

Beyond the seminar, Chief MAKOi maximized his visit by reconnecting with fellow alumni and industry partners from MLA College. Engaging in meaningful conversations with maritime professionals based in Singapore, the visit underscored the strength of global industry networks and the shared commitment to advancing maritime excellence.

He also represented PHILCAMSAT and The PTC Group at a high-level in-person meeting hosted by the UN Global Compact Network Singapore in collaboration with UN Oceans, held at the Singapore Sustainability Academy. The gathering brought together key stakeholders to discuss sustainable ocean practices and the maritime sector’s role in achieving global sustainability goals.

Through Chief MAKOi’s active participation, PHILCAMSAT continues to strengthen its presence on the global stage—contributing valuable perspectives on digitalization, human-centric operations, and sustainability, while reinforcing its commitment to developing future-ready maritime professionals.
