On July 11, 2025, PHILCAMSAT representatives, on behalf of the PTC Group, visited MV Salome, a Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) vessel managed by Wallenius Marine. Initiated by Capt. San Win, Head of Ship Management at Wallenius Marine, the visit aimed to align training programs with actual vessel operations, assess gaps, and enhance safety and operational readiness. This initiative reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between Wallenius Marine and PTC, with PHILCAMSAT as a trusted training provider.
Built in 2012 and registered in Bergen, MV Salome is an impressive vessel measuring 265 meters long with a cargo deck area spanning eight soccer fields and a capacity of over 6,000 vehicles. Inspired by the opera Salome by Richard Strauss, the vessel reflects a blend of strength and elegance. During the visit, the team observed operations in the galley, cargo ramp, engine room, and bridge, identifying opportunities to refine training modules in areas such as inventory planning, ramp operations, forklift safety, and lashing techniques.
The team also highlighted the need for enhanced training in high-voltage systems, hydraulic troubleshooting, and firefighting systems, particularly the Low-Pressure CO₂ suppression system. On the bridge, digital navigation tools such as Navtor and integrated reporting systems demonstrated the level of technology supporting vessel efficiency. The crew’s welfare was also evident in the ship’s well-equipped recreational facilities, contributing to overall morale and well-being onboard.
The visit concluded with a meeting with senior officers, where best practices, including safety initiatives like “See It, Say It, Stop It,” were shared. Demonstrations of the Loadmaster X5 7400 system and remote ballast operations reinforced the importance of familiarization with ship-specific technologies. With strengthened insights into Ro-Ro vessel operations, PHILCAMSAT is now better positioned to develop responsive, scenario-based training programs for Wallenius Marine.
